I would have thought Ars would have had someone with enough art + Wacom/Apple Pencil/Surface experience for that to come out in the first impressions. I am really surprised there are so few reviews that mention this.

If you're not buying the Studio for the Pen what is the point? You can get another PC for way less money that will be better. The feel of the Surface pen is not as good as the Apple Pencil. The thing is the Surface Studio is super distracting if you try it and you're familiar with the iPad Pro. I don't think that's a direction that Apple is going to move because it's an extremely small niche.įor those who do need (or want) this, AstroPad ( ) has gotten pretty good reviews from what I've read. That said, there are glimmers of hope like the Logic Remote app, but I'd love to see them do much more stuff like that. Seamless Mac-iOS integrated features would sell the Apple ecosystem at a time when both iPad and Mac are looking dull and uninspiring. This is the sort powerful advantage you should have when you own both the hardware and the software.

Why haven't they released an API to enable developers like Adobe to directly access an iPad Pro connected to the Mac. Why isn't there a mode in which the iPad and Mac work together in concert?įor starters, I consider it a big oversight by Apple that there is still no first-party way to do what Astropad does.
I'm certain that if Apple puts their mind to it, they could come up with a solution that easily beats the Surface Studio at its own game.
